January 2017 mtg recap

With a whopping 41 eager makers in attendance, January’s meeting saw a great turn out including 8 guests and 9 new members. The agenda was jam-packed but let’s face it, we were all here for the guild’s first fundraising craft sale!

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Since we hadn't met since last November, there was a lot to cover on the agenda. Our Executive took members through budgets, dues, meeting updates, a call for more volunteers, and events, including a presentation to this year's Quilts by the Creek taking place in July.

Quilts by the Creek presentation

The return of Block Lotto was inspired by the Women’s March on January 21, 2017 and the Pussy Hat Project. Designed by Berene, the Pussy Quilt Block Lotto is composed of pink triangles marching in the name of women’s rights and in support of peace and love. Craftivism at its best! One block gets you one ticket for the jackpot draw of all completed blocks and all blocks are due at the March meeting. More info can be found under the here

The next challenge is slightly more long-term but not by much! Our first-ever UFO Challenge is getting us all inspired in achieving “closure” on our unfinished projects. According to the entries submitted, we’ll be looking at 100 completed oeuvres over the next several Show & Shares, culminating to a grand draw in November when the challenge ends. Submissions are now closed but challenge details can be found here. And don’t forget to tag you projects with the #TMQGUFO2017 hashtag.

After our social break, Steff opened our first fundraising craft sale with a quick rundown of rules and regs.

It was a resounding success with close to $700 raised for guild programming. Many thanks to Steff and the programming team for managing the sale. Great job team!

Housekeeping

  • Catherine Clarke was the lucky winner of this month’s door prize, Berene’s Love Heart Tattoo Pillow pattern. Looking forward to her version some time soon!
  • As The Workroom will be moving into their new digs at the end of February, the TMQG has found a temporary meeting location for February. Although some of you will be whooping it up at QuiltCon in Savannah that weekend, the rest of us will meet at the Yonge/Eglinton Toronto Public Library at 40 Orchard View Boulevard on Sunday, February 26. Please note that since the library closes at 5pm, our meeting will start 15 minutes earlier, from 2:45 to 4:45pm.

Stay warm. Keep stitching!

Complete meeting minutes can be found under the Meetings tab.
