Quilts for Quebec City


Our sister guild in Montreal, the Montreal Modern Quilt Guild, has put a call out for blocks to make quilts for the victims of the mosque shootings in Quebec City on January 29. In solidarity, we will be collecting House quilt blocks for the Montreal MQG. The hope is that the quilts are a reminder to the recipients that Canada is their home, that they are an important part of this community and that as neighbours, we're here to support and protect them. Blocks are 12 1/2" square. You may make an apartment building block instead of a house as some of the victims' families live in rental housing. Remember, multiples of 12" plus 1/2" seam allowance. Please tag your blocks with the #QuiltsForQC hashtag.

Berene will be collecting blocks from members of our guild at the February 26 meeting. Please note the new location and time (2:45pm) for this meeting. If you're going to QuitCon and unable to attend the February meeting, drop off points are being organized. Please DM Berene on Facebook or on Instagram for more info. Deadline is February 26.

February  2020 Meeting Recap Hello Toronto Modern Quilters! We know some of you were off at QuiltCon last weekend, but those of us who stayed home got our quilting fix at our fabulous February meeting.  We had a fantastic presentation from Tania Denyer of  Ginger Quilts . She talked about the intersection of art and craft, shared her philosophy on creativity, and left us all asking "What would that look like in fabric?" Plus, we got to see her gorgeous and mouth-watering quilts up close. Inspirational!  Announcements Our Vice President Xandra launched our very first block lotto of 2020! It features "Enchanted" the Kona Colour of the Year, and a block pattern from the  Modern Quilt Guild . Block lotto instructions can be found  here .  Participate in our TMQG logo design challenge!  Submit your designs to  torontomodernquiltguild@gmail.com  by March 29, 2020. You must be a member to enter the challenge. Multiple submissions are accepted.
